Virginia Tech's newly commissioned Second Lieutenants Nick Roland, Dan DiGiorgio, Nate Carter, Mike Luth, and Charles Gallagher recently graduated the Infantry Officer Basic Course at Fort Benning and will attend the prestigious Ranger School on November 5, 2007.


13 Aug ‘07- Congratulations to the Army ROTC Freshman Class of 2011 for completing New Cadet Week training at the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets.  This year the New River Battalion welcomes over 64 new Freshmen to the Virginia Tech Army ROTC program with over $1 million in awarded scholarships. 


13 Aug ‘07- Army ROTC New Cadets attend the ROTC orientation session of New Cadet Week inside McBryde auditorium. The Class of 2011 has 64 Freshmen and is one of the largest classes in recent history. 


 

Summer 2007 Highlights

- For the second year in a row, VT Army ROTC Cadets achieved the best overall tactical and leadership performance of all six Senior Military Colleges in the nation. They attained overall top performance in Physical Fitness, Rifle Marksmanship, Land Navigation, RECONDO Award, and the number of cadets who exceeded assessment standards. 

- VT Army ROTC sent a record 84 freshmen through senior cadets to summer leadership training and assessment courses across the U.S. and around the world.

- We commissioned a record 49 officers for the U.S. Army this spring and summer.

- 22 Army cadets graduated from U.S. Army Airborne and air assault School; including a VT first of eight freshman cadets.

- 35% of our cadets earned "Exceeds Standards" Leadership Rating during their 32 day national assessment at Ft. Lewis, WA.

- 9 cadets traveled to the USMA at West Point, Guantanamo Bay Cuba, Ft. Hood TX, Hanau and Kaiserslautern Germany, Aberdeen Proving grounds MD and Ft. Leonardwood MO for Platoon Leader training with U.S. Army units.

- Cadet Beach, Cahan, and Byrd each scored over 300 points during the 2007 Leader Development Assessment Course (LDAC). 

- Cadet Kessinger (Radford Nurse Cadet) received three excellence ratings during her first four leadership positions at the 2007 Leader Development Assessment Course (LDAC). 

- Cadet Alberts, Byrd and Beach all qualified expert during during the 2007 Leader Development Assessment Course (LDAC).
